Gastroenteritis day 8 still sick and in pain

My 14 month old has had gaestro since last Thursday. He’s vomited daily apart from a little break on Tuesday which I think was due to anti sickness meds given at a&e.

He’s not being sick as often now and has started to nibble the odd cracker. He’s been mostly breastfeeding this whole time, with the odd bit of water.

Spent last weekend back & forth to a&e and they were assured it was just a virus and we need to ride it out. Has anyone else had experience of stomach bugs going on for longer than a week?? He’s still really not right and in lots of pain as spends the night rolling around and crying, crawling into a ball trying to get comfortable. Paracetamol not doing much & can’t take anti sickness anymore as only prescribed for 2 days.

Any help or advice welcome!

I recently caught rotavirus from my LO (despite baby having had all the vaccines last year!). It took over a week for the stomach cramps to go for me, even after the vomiting and diarrhoea had stopped. I was worse than DC (symptoms cleared up after 5 days but the GP tested for rota as fever has high). DC didn't seem to get cramps, main symptom for us was projectile vomiting.

I'm so sorry your LO is in pain, it's really rotten, you could always go back to your GP and push for a stool test to narrow down what's wrong - we had to do this to rule out bacterial food poisoning.

Thank you so much for your reply @OtterMummy2024. that has set my mind at ease and made me chill out a bit about it all. It’s just crazy that it’s been going on so long, but sounds like really nasty bugs can go on over a week. Sorry you had such an awful time of it too, and I’m really hoping that my little one gets past it soon. Thanks so much again x
