I’m really worried about my child’s bruises

My son is a few months off being 2
ovbiously the weather has been nice and he’s been outside a lot, we have noticed bruises keep coming up on his outer thigh, the next day there will be another, apart from the usual bruises on his shins they are nowhere else on his body apart from one outer thigh.
My rational mind is telling me that he must be doing something where he bangs that leg, they come up very blue then fade to yellow. He currently had 4 on that outer thigh alll at different stages.
he is only small so I’m worried, can anyone reassure or advise me please

Sorry just to add, I’m worried because it says that bruises on the thigh are not normal. He is never out of my care so I’m not worried about anything happening

Does he use anything like a bike? My daughter used to get really badly bruised when she first started to cycle.

My little girl bruises like mad. I cannot tell you how many times I've googled leukemia.

We have seen a HUGE improvement in the random bruises by giving her BioGlen iron supplements. She still gets bruises but now just in logical places e.g. knees. The random ones (thighs, bum, tummy!) stopped after about a week on iron supplements.

You can get their iron tested but I thought I'd spare her a blood test and just give it a go.

Obviously if you have other concerns - super tired, not weight bearing, petechiae, sickness, headaches etc then go straight to GP x

We have had experience of leukemia in our family. Bruises were the last thing to appear. Symptoms prior to that were utter exhaustion and bleeding gums.

If you are worried please just get him checked that’s what the doctors are there for

but as a mother who has a child a similar age to you I can say my child had bruisers all over their legs and I have no idea where they have come from. But my child is very active and climbing everything in sight

HoppingPavlova · 22/05/2025 10:59

You can get him checked but it would be unusual that bruises would be confined to the same area (one outer thigh) if there was a significant underlying issue.

I managed to get a photo during nap time, the ones that are now yellow are the ones I noticed a few days ago, now there is two more: I’ve watched him more closely today and he seems to fall onto that leg more, or if climbing off something he will lead with the other leg and that one will follow and bang against something. I’m going it’s just this: I will keep an eye and if I notice more snd more I will get him checked. Thank you

Thank you I have ordered to try, I’ve wanted to add more iron into his diet but he is fussy

Did you work out what is causing them? My 2 year old has them in the same place both thighs. New ones appearing too x

Daffodil0407 · 08/08/2025 17:03

@Mummymamabear Did you ever get to the bottom of this? My 2 year old is exactly the same and my rational brain knows it's because he is 100mph and into anything and everything but I have terrible health anxiety about it. It worries me daily 😭 I took him to the doctors this week and she said it looks like normal toddler bruises but I can't help but worry x
