5 year old - Persistent Microscopic Blood in Urine/Hematuria

My 5 year old daughter has had a fever and vomiting a few times over the past few months with suspected UTIs each time treated with antibiotics.

Each time she has had her urine sample taken they have found a trace of blood (microscopic and not visible to the eye). This has been persistent over the past 8 weeks.

She has been referred to a Consultant and is awaiting an ultrasound of her kidneys
and has had her bloods taken.

Just wondered if anyone has been through anything similar and what the outcome was?

I really am hoping that there is some benign cause behind it all.

Any advice much appreciated

I don’t have any advice, but in a very similar situation with my 4yr old.

It’s been ongoing for a number of months, but still not any clearer.

didn’t want to read and run

Appreciate your reply and its good to know there are others experiencing the same as I feel quite alone about it all. Have you found the same ie persistent blood in urine?

Did the doctors run any tests etc? I really hope its down to nothing and they do these things to just rule things out etc

Yeah there has been trace blood and sometimes leucocytes in every professionally dipped urine (which is many…) since Sept.

Our journey hasn’t been smooth. They haven’t told me what is causing this.
They have had a kidney scan, where the kidneys were fine.
But I’m still seeking advice around something seen in her bladder on ultrasound.

has your DC got any other symptoms?
mine complains of tummy pain most days, sometimes has stingy wee etc.

Hi there, sorry to hear the journey has not been smooth. I have a feeling it will be a similar story on our end as well - I just want to know the cause but I get the feeling we may never know.

Re symptoms every few weeks my little one will run a fever, complain re her tummy hurting and often some vomiting etc - each time the GPs have put it down to a UTI. Every time a urine sample has been taken they find a trace of blood

Hey, can’t offer any advice but I myself am also going through something similar..no symptoms but trace of blood found in my urine during pregnancy…am now 4 months post partum and the blood shows as ++. Kidney and bladder ultrasound all normal and I’ve had a flexible cystoscopy which was also normal…still under investigation which is worrying….hope you get to the bottom of what is causing the microscopic blood in your little one’s urine. Hate having no answers!

I had a similar situation with my 4 year old. Pediatrician assured us it was a serious hereditary condition and worried me dreadfully for years.

It wasn’t and at 30+ she is still absolutely fine.

ETA: we never had an answer but the best guess changed to TBMD.
