My eldest has chronic constipation which we treating with movicol lactulose etc

My middle child just started all sudden refluxing. I never heard of reflux starting in a 3 years old. I keep analysing what triggered it because he never had history of reflux as a baby. I keep blaming myself for his water intake. He can finish a whole 330ml bottle of water at once and he eats a lot of fruit maybe fruit or water triggered it ! Literally I feel like a shit mum because all my kids are sick and I think I might be the cause .

I have a baby now and I am scared I will do something wrong too.

My 9 year old has chronic constipation. I’ve never once considered it to be my fault. How would you be the cause of constipation and reflux?

AliBaliBee1234 · 11/04/2025 16:36

Are you suffering with postnatal depression or anxiety possibly? Even just drained with the lack of sleep.

Why is it you think you're to blame for constipation?

I blame his constipation on me because he had all signs of CMPA but never pushed for tests. Till he was three and he had faecal impaction and complications.
I feel like my trauma from my eldest son might have made me push more water to my second son and fruit which have contributed or caused his reflux

Being a parent and all that it entails doesn't come with a user guide. Every mum will have regrets, especially with their first child while you're still learning. I bet you took him to a doctor too from your comments. It's hard to know what to push for if you've done that.

If you think that your middle child is having maybe a little too much fibre try cutting back and see if it helps. Sometimes a litte trial and error is needed :)

Sometimes it’s just random. It is for my daughter.

just reduce the fruit a bit for your other child if you feel it’s causing issues.

these are perfectly normal health issues that loads of young children have. Maybe you should speak to your health visitor about your concerns - you sound like you could do with some mental health support
