Four year old’s poo - very bizarre and concerning

Hi All.
Just wanted to get your thoughts.
My four year old’s poos seem very odd. He sits for a while - often you’ll hear something normal size-sounding come out, following by a giant pile of poo, like someone dumping a load of rubble out of a digger. It isn’t really wet or runny so doesn’t seem like diarrhea, and its also almost every time he poos.
I’m worried this is some sign of malabsorption/colon issues etc. He is quite well in himself - although does seem a little smaller and more pale/fragile than his peers. Very pale skin, to the point where you can see large veins in his jowels and face in general.
I guess what I’m asking is, what’s normal? Because this doesn’t feel quite right, but he’s our first, only child. Thanks in advance.

Have you had a look at the Bristol stool chart? That may help you to determine if this is normal. If you have any concerns contact your GP, he may have an intolerance or vitamin deficiency (only as you mentioned him being very pale)

It looks quite flaky? How frequently is he going? Does he get much fibre in his diet and drinks enough?

Has he had a stomach bug or been on antibiotics at all lately? Probiotics can help

Hi svhool nurse here, sounds like chronic constipation where looser poo escapes past hard stool. Got to the gp for some movicol. They can also do a stool sample to check faecal protein as a sign of inflamnation.

How often does he go? Poo concerns and fragile with pale skin - exactly like my son who has coeliacs disease. Worth asking for a test.
