DS (23 months) was really off colour, not eating properly for 2/3 days and then one random night I spotted some awful white stuff on his tonsils.

We took him to the GP who said it was either tonsillitis or diphtheria (?!) and took swabs, and prescribed 7 days of antibiotics. GP said that if he has trouble breathing or excessive drooling too take him to A&E. He's been drooling but breathing is fine.

After 1 day he was in better spirits and eating more. After a couple of days he was almost his old self, today his course of antibiotics finished, but the tonsils remain a bit inflamed and the white stuff has reduced but is still clearly there.

We still don't have the swab results back, I've been calling every couple of days.

Has anyone had this and what was the outcome? Does it just take longer to clear or did it turn out to be something more sinister?

I know I need to call the GP again etc.

So how long has he been in the antibiotics?
3 days?

He sounds on the mend, but the white stuff should reduce in the next couple of days I'd say

I'm no expert, but it's mainly his temperature and general mood that you need to see an improvement in

I’d go back to the GP just to be on the safe side.

This started last week he was prescribed 7 days of antibiotics, which ended yesterday.

The white stuff has reduced, the inflammation looks less, but one tonsil is particularly bad and is still covering half of his throat, which is why I'm worried. We've also been giving him Calpol/Calprofen to help with the discomfort and swelling so I'm surprised that it still looks how it looks.
