Can I say no to health visitors check ups?

Hello,

my DD is 12 weeks old, we had the usual visits from midwife’s and health visitors but at the 8 week check with the health visitor her head measurement was off ( exactly the same as it was at the 6 week gp) she thought he’d probably just measured wrong so booked in to see us again in 3 weeks time just to double check.
we just had that check.. different health visitor this time. Her head had only grown 0.4cm so she was still concerned. Also her weight has no gone down a percentile. She weights 11.6kg her head is 37.4cm.

we bought a proper baby head measuring tape and we’re getting 38.1 EVERY time we measure! So I think she got it wrong again!

and I think her weigh gain is because she’s been suffering with reflux (a lot of her feeds come back up) we now have her on infant gaviscon which has helped massively!

they’ve booked us in again in another 3 weeks, but I have not stopped stressing! I have awful anxiety and I’m finding it incredibly hard to deal with!

looking at her she is a completely healthy looking happy baby, meeting all her mile stones! I just wish I’d never had the appointments to begin with! I never knew you could say no!

what I’d like to know now is if I can decline the follow up and just say I’ll take to the gp if I have any further concerns because they’re stressing me out so much or will this be frowned upon?

thanks!

Absolutely yes you can. It's not a mandatory service at all

Yes you can decline HV checks. Take baby to be weighed at a drop in if you are ever worried. And GP for anything serious.

Surely she cannot weigh 11.6kg at 3mo?! Do you mean pounds?

Loulou161 · 02/04/2025 19:00

Yes I mean lbs! 🤦‍♀️😂

Ex HV here - yes you can refuse, but why don't you ask them to use your tape (I assume it's a halo type type, which is definitely more accurate).
