My 6 year old daughter had a blood test to check her bleeding factors. As she bruises very easily and there is a family history of bleeding disorders. She’s autistic and non verbal, so the whole process was quite upsetting and chaotic. On the first attempt they burst a vein because my daughter was so strong and moved her arm too much trying to push the nurses away. The second time, the needle wouldn’t stay in the vein. They eventually got some blood from her hand, until my little girl pulled the needle out. The next day she was very irritable and I couldn’t figure out why. The day after that, she was falling asleep before dinner, which is a clear sign to me that she’s not well. She’s prescribed sleep medication which doesn’t always keep her asleep for the whole night.. so the fact we couldn’t keep her awake without her medication says a lot. She went to school today (she attends a SEN school), she was really emotional in the school taxi, and was really tired at school despite having a full nights sleep. She slept most of the way home from school (almost an hour’s journey with traffic) and still seems sleepy now that she’s home. I thought it might be a bug but she’s not off her food and her temp is normal. Could this be a reaction to her having her blood taken and maybe she does have an underlying bleeding disorder? Has anyone experienced similar with their child after they’ve had blood taken? It’s really difficult when something is wrong with your child and they can’t communicate with you 😢
