So long story short, me and DS moved area 2 years ago, this meant moving health trust. My son has ADHD, diagnosed. When we moved, one trust did not notify another trust of the need to move DS for further check ups. Therefore, it has just come to light that. The trust that diagnosed him have now ‘discharged’ him, a new trust needs to start the process of referral from GP (with waiting lists this could take months to get seen again) but in the meantime they will not give him medication? The same medication he has been taking for years since diagnosis!! How can they let my child go through withdrawal? Is there anything I can do to change this?! They have said because DS is not ‘shared care’ with NHS they can’t prescribe meds until he is seen again by another ADHD consultant, that could take months

Yep this is normal.

gp will only prescribe if they are carrying on a prescription from a consultant and even then lots of practices choose not to do it.

we’ve had a nightmare with my daughter at uni as she had three practices in two years (home, halls, second year rental).

we’re just using private now at 70 prescription and 100 a review until she has a permanent address.
