Phimosis treatment (Surgery scares me)

I am a very anxious mum and single parent, so a bit isolated. My DS11 has phimosis, and we saw the urology team at the hospital today. We have been trying to use the tropical creams for months now, but they have not worked one bit so they are going to operate and it scares me! He often has UTIs and kidney infections because of it so I know its for the best but how might this effect him! He is pretty happy in himself and looks forward to having time off school. Its so hard not to google everything about it all the risks, how it will effect him sorry to ramble on.

very similar to what I had with my son, what is it you’re mainly worried about? Is it the surgery itself, or are you worried about the consequences?

MindFlutter · 18/03/2025 22:51

Im worried about both! Itll be his first surgery and reading online he will be really sensitive and sore for a few weeks. I know and understand its good to be done before puberty takes full effects but I know its good in the long run him being on antibitoics every month isnt good.

@BoldMintOtter , how old was your son when he had the surgery?

My son had to be circumcised as a toddler. My husband was circumcised as an adult. Far better for your son to be operated on now, it will save him years of discomfort, infections and embarrassment. Put your fears aside and do what it best for him. It's a no brainer.

Theres no question about it! While my fears are high and anxiety is there, I agreed with the doctor to put him on the list. It isnt good to be on antibiotics so often I dont want him to become resistant but equally this is his first surgery and I have anxiety

My son was 13 when he was fully circumcised. It was a bit of a bumpy ride for recovery, but we got there

@BoldMintOtter any tips that you have learned from your bumpy ride in recovery?
