My 2.5 year old has had diarrhoea and vomiting since Thursday. He has been eating and drinking fine but since yetaerday has had a reduced appetite. He vomited at 0430 this morning and now at 10pm. He last had diarrhoea at 11am He has been eating very small amount - couple of toast bites and bit of pasta. Has also been drinking sips but not huge amount. He's fine in himself but I'm concerned that he's not weed for atleast 12hrs. I rang 111 a doctor was supposed to ring back but instead they sent a text saying they top busy case closed.

Ring them again.

Ring them back and whilst your waiting start a fluid challenge, start giving 5ml or so of water every 5 mins and record how much your giving, if they are sick etc. if they can’t keep a tiny amount down just go to a&e as they could be dehydrated xxx

Call again and ask for an out of hours appointment if you're very concerned.

I would ring again. In the meantime I'd be encouraging regular sips any time he stirs overnight. Use a calpol syringe if it helps get it in.

Omgggimworrying · 22/02/2025 23:02

Infact for the fluid challenge- do you have any apple juice in?

HundredPercentUnsure · 22/02/2025 23:03

Call again and offer sips of water, nibble of watermelon or a minimilk type thing, anything to get fluid in. I'd be concerned about dehydration.

He's just done a wee now. Hooray! I'm gonna continue encouraging him to have sips. But I'm not so concerned now.
