My 14 year old son had what I thought was a bug beginning of last week where he had stomach pains, felt sick and had diarrhoea. Sure enough two days later I had the same thing. I’m over it but DS poo has been moderately runny since or so he has just told me. Today he’s come running in the front door after school and dashed to the loo with the same symptoms as last week which prompted the conversation. Turns out it happened at school yesterday too.

Is it normal to go on for 9 days?! I got over it in a few hours. DH and other DS are fine. I tried the GP but as expected they are too busy today and I can try the phone queue tomorrow or the online triage (which is also full for today, so can try tomorrow).

My DS had something similar to this last autumn and the runny poo went on for 12 days. I did speak to the GP around day 10 and they said they don't do stool samples until it's been 14 days. They just said keep hydrated, avoid dairy and don't take Immodium (it keeps the bug inside the gut and can prolong it apparently). Hope it clears up soon!
