Toddler's foot turned out after cast removal

My 17 month old hurt himself on a slide. His foot got caught and caused a toddler fracture. He had 2 weeks with no cast as they didn't think it was broken but after taking him back for a third time they discovered the fracture and put him in a cast for two weeks.

He got it off on Monday. For the first few days he was throwing his foot in front of him like he was still in a cast. The last few days he has been walking with his foot at a 45 degree angle pointing outwards. Google says it is common but does anyone have experience of this? We are back at the hospital this week for a follow up appointment.

Also when he walks fast it is closer to 90 degrees.

Ds twisted his ankle at about that age (no bones broken as far as x-rays could tell) and when he started weight bearing again, about 2 weeks later, walked like this.
After about another 10 days he suddenly put his foot down and walked properly.

But do ask at the followup appointment.

That is good to hear it corrected itself for your DS. Thank you x
