I have been to the doctors a couple of times. They have been unable to figure this out but have suggested its a possible cows milk allergy. Before going dairy free (breastfeeding), they suggested I try a hydrocortisone steroid and emollient. The steroid has helped with the skin patches to an extent (although I don't want to use it longer than I have to), but my sons skin still flares up.
I had a follow up appointment a week or two ago after using the steroid and emollients, my son was having a good skin day (I did point this out, and said the day before it was more flared up). Because his skin looked good that particular day, they said the steroid must be helping, and they no longer need to see us. But said to call if it gets bad again.
They seem to not be able to tell me what this skin condition is, although I know they can be tricky to diagnose. Today, his skin is really bad again, despite still using steroids and emollient.
I am fully prepared to go dairy free if this is what it actually is, as there is definitely something triggering these flare ups, (cows milk can stay in the system for 2 weeks apparently so it's been hard to tell straight away if this is a cause). But I thought I would come on here and see if any MNters have had similar with their children.
(I have psoriasis myself and brought this up, but the doctor did not suggest it might be this. However, mine usually goes with a little steroid cream)
Any suggestions?
