Bald patches on toddlers scalp

Hi everyone,

Me and my husband are very upset at the moment. Our little girl has just turned two and a couple of months ago we noticed a small bald patch on her head, and over the last couple months it's got pretty big. There's some hair in the middle of the patch. Recently though, we have noticed two other smaller patches. I took her to the drs yesterday who said it may be Alopecia areata, which I was worried about. She has written to dermatology at the hospital for advice. I changed her multivitamin to one with zinc and iron and more vitamin d last week. I am honestly beside myself with worry and upset. I've added a pic.

Has anyone's child had this before? Any positive stories?

Does she thumb suck and pull at it or is it coming out naturally?

@Tipperttruck she sometimes sucks her thumb but it's rare and I've not seen her pulling it. It's not coming out easily when I've tested it either. Thanks for your reply

Dc had bald patches turned out had multiple deficiencies due to coeliac disease. Have they suggested bloods to rule out /check for other possibilities?

@Fernlimered did the bald patches look like my daughters? No they didn't mention taking bloods or anything but they did write to dermatology so I'm hoping they want to investigate. If not I will push for bloods. Did the bald patches clear up? Thanks for your reply.

Looked very similar, about 4 patches of absolutely no hair. Yes they did grow back once change in diet took effect.

Did your dc have any symptoms of coeliacs?
