Hi all,
My little girl is breaking my heart. She is now 10 weeks and since 2 weeks it has been a nightmare. At 4 weeks we went to GP with symptoms of CMPA. We were prescribed nutramigen. She hated it and when we were weighed by HV at 6 weeks she had dropped centile and they suggested coming off CMPA milk and going to a normal formula as her putting weight on was more important. We have gone to Cow and Gate comfort and she is feeding better but they are still not happy with her weight. She cries all day unless she is sleeping and when she is picked up she cries more the only way to settle her is by lying her on a changing mat. We have been told it could be reflux and prescribed lanzoprazole but she does bring up milk and as previously stated she is only happy lying flat which no where I can find online is normal with a reflux baby. I have been to doctors Health visitors paediatricians and we are getting no where has anyone had anything like this with there baby?

Oh I've been there although was BF. Was getting fobbed off by GP and had all sorts of meds prescribed for reflux and colic, which we tried for a bit but ultimately didn't do anything and I wasn't comfortable giving my small baby meds without a known cause. Reflux is a symptom, best to check what could be causing it. Have you had baby checked for tongue tie? We did after 12 weeks and after cut, made a big difference. Either way, I recommend you follow rockabye_hub on Instagram, lots of helpful advice and content.

I can't help as a bit out of touch with babies, I hope you get it sorted though ❣️

Also have you tried baby massage? Great for wee uncomfortable tummies

I feel for you and your little girl, its agonising seeing them in pain and makes you feel like the newborn bubble everyone talks about was taken from you.

It does sound like cmpa, my son was like this early on and cried or made the most miserable croaky moans in his wake windows, I took him to A&E I was so worried. They gave him omeprazole and then upped it a week later when I came back as it wasnt doing anything, it was too little for his weight it turned out.

The turning point for us was cmpa formula but we trailled a few before finding one he would accept, as they do taste awful compared to other milk. Can you try one like aptamil pepti syneo, our health visitor said babies tolerated it better and that worked for our son. He was like a different child, no more mucusy nappies, no more pooping eith every bit of gas, could lie him on his back eventually (had to hold him to sleep, taking shifts sometimes) as he wasn't getting burning acid reflux up his throat. My friends son had it worse and she was told to add a drop of vanilla essence (no alcohol type) in the formula to make it more palatable as her son was dropping centiles so much it was the lesser worry to have vanilla in his bottle than losing the weight.

I've seen threads on here where there are issues like diverticulitis and other issues that are misdiagnosed as just infant digestion maturing etc so trust your gut and habe her checked again if you're worried x

Sorry totally missed the but about her being happy lying flat, that is a tricky one as yeah reflux babies usually cannot abuse that. If you're worried about her being so uncomfortable all the time do take her in for a 2nd opinion, infection ridiculous going to A&E but it was so distressing seeing my son in that state and as a new mum with no family nearby I didn't know what else to do, but glad I did in the end. My son also had a tongue tie that was snipped at 3 weeks old.

mathanxiety · 28/01/2025 22:52

What are her nappies like (i.e. consistency of poo, any mucus)? Any discomfort (drawing knees up)? Any gassiness?

sending a hug, it’s awful when you’re baby is so upset and in pain. My LO struggled with gaining weight, reflux and severe wind. Was assessed for tongue tie but didn’t meet the the threshold. It was suggested I should try cranial osteopathy. I was a bit sceptical but it did wonders. The osteopath worked to relax LO’s jaw and digestive system, and I saw improvement after the first session.
