Temp of 40.4- when to see doctor

Hi all,

Please no judgement. My DD 2.5 has been poorly since Saturday morning running super high fevers of 39/40 and a dry cough. Completely controllable with calpol and ibuprofen and she's in general fine in herself, drinking, playing etc

Little appetite but is eating/snacking

Anyway, I thought her fever was breaking today. She hadn't had pain relief since 2pm and was running a temp of 38ish up and down which is fine as she was happy and smiley, coping really well.

Anyway, she just woke up and the fever is 40.4 again (in ear temp). Obviously given calpol now, but just wanting opinions on if I should take her to the doctors tomorrow? I'm fairly sure it's just a virus and we will just be told to go home.

Obviously if the medicine doesn't bring it down etc then I will be on the phone to 111, but it seems to be doing the trick at the moment.

Any advice/opinions/thoughts/experiences? I think there are some nasty bugs going around!

Call 111

The calpol worked quickly last night and brought it down.

Shes now at 37.7/38 without having any more pain relief since 12am, hopefully it stays down...

My little one just had this. She was only awake 4 hours each day and super high fevers, I was worried silly. Multiple trips to doctors and a&e visit... confirmed flu! You can buy nasal tests from tesco!

It was awful isn't it! Such a poorly bug, I think you are right that it was the flu, nursery said the children and staff were dropping like flies and they had a confirmed case of the flu!

So happy it is over!
