I am just trying to hear some experiences from other parents regarding this.
I've suffered with cold sores all my life. I got it from my grandma as a child.
When my second son was 6 weeks old I got one and didn't know they were so dangerous for newborns and when I found out I freaked out since I already kissed him on the day the sore was coming out, when there was only the redness and tingling. Next 10 days were nightmare, I lost 9 pounds because I could not eat because I worried so much, wore a mask all the time and washed my hands every 10 minutes. But my son did not get it then so happy outcome.
Now he is 7 months old and I have another outbreak. I am following the same treatment..wash my hands, not kissing him, not letting him touch my face. I am wondering though, if the unthinkable happens will it still be dangerous for him? Whatever I found online says that after 6 months they should be ok but would like to hear from parents if they had babies that actually had a cold sore before 12 months old and how did it go for them.
My son is very healthy and strong, so no immune issues or anything like that, he had 3 or 4 colds and hand foot and mouth from his older brother who brings all kinds of viruses from nursery and he deals well with normal illness.
When we went to AE for the hand foot and mouth the pediatrician there said it might be cold sores as sometime they resemble his symptoms in the beginning but didn't seem too concerned. My son was 5 months then.
Thank you.
