My son has cysts on his face - seeking advice

Hi there,

For the past year my son has had these cysts on his forehead and towards his eye. They never dissappear but fill up and weap.

He has been on two types of antibiotics (not for infection) but to reduce swelling etc.

He cleans his face with prescribed facecwash (morning/night) and cream (every night).

Sadly the NHS has been slow and they had nothing till December, (Dermatology appointment made June).

He also has spots, acne on the rest of his face.

Has anybody seen this in their children?

Any advice to help this clear up?

Thank you.
:)

I would guess he has cystitis acne, and Roaccutane will be needed to clear it up. Nothing else works, unfortunately.

Oooh poor lad.

Agree with PP, he'll need roaccutane. It worked a treat with me but it's a harsh drug

Can you go private to speed things up?

Thequeenofwishfulthinking · 19/09/2024 22:59

I would say Roaccutane is required urgently to prevent scarring. Nothing else will clear this up..This was a miracle drug for me and despite the precautions necessary I would highly recommend.
I would request an urgent referral to dermatology first thing tomorrow morning.
As mentioned above I would consider a private initial appointment to speed up the process.

I mean cystic acne.

Roaccutane. Don’t piss about with anything else.

Agreed - roaccutane will sort it out but he will need careful monitoring of his mental health. My friend's son had cystic acne like this. One course of roaccutane and it's cleared up completely, but he tried loads of other things first that didn't work so he has quite a bit of scarring.

Thank you all for you advice! I will certainly speed things up and pass on your recommendations! x
