I am so worried about my little girl. This is my first time posting here and I am just looking for other mums who might have experienced similar. My daughter is 26 months old and has a very bad speech delay. I noticed around 10 months old her joint attention was very poor. I did bring it to the attention of our public heath nurse who told me not to worry. My daughter is very engaging with us. And when we get her attention she is fantastic to play and interact. Fast forward to when she was 18 months she had only babble still and said only 1 clear word "up." I again brought it to the attention of the nurse, GP etc and still they said wait until she is 2. I wasn't happy to wait so booked her private for speech and language. She told me to get my daughters hearing tested so I did. We went private to audiology when she was 21 months and it was clear she had glue ear. He also told me she had scar tissue in her ears and that her ear drum had busted at some stage. I do remember a few months prior waking up and finding blood in her cot and and when I brought her to the GP they said it was a tooth that came through. I now know it was from her ears and she never had an ear infection at this time that we new of and doctors missed the burst drum. We were referred to an ENT clinic and got a cancellation appointment the following week and they told me no glue ear was present. I wasn't happy so went for a second opinion to another audiogist incase the first man made a mistake and yes no glue ear was present at that time. She came on a little summer gone and has now maybe 30 words. Very very poorly pronounced only family would understand her. She is very engaging with us when we get her attention and is trying so hard to talk but we can't understand her. She lacks massively socially and likes to be near me or someone she knows. She will not play with people she doesn't know only us. We also found out she is tongue tied and are awaiting the surgery for that also. She doesn't suffer with outer ear infections but has got very bad inner ear infections in the past from head colds etc. She is constantly on antibiotics. I am convinced her glue ear is fluctuating from time to time she is always at her ears and putting her fingers in them. Not to block sound but like she is trying to get something out of them. We have another ENT appointment next week for a second opinion. I am just wondering if any mothers have had similar happen their children. I do know she can hear some of what I say as if I ask her to get some of the things she knows she will run off and get them for me. She can be very sensitive to sounds like loud cars. She doesnt cover her ears but gets a fright by them when they pass. I dont know if she may have autism or if this is all related to her ears. I just want the right help for my daughter. Thank you all in advance.

Hi there

did the hearing test tell you to what extent her hearing was reduced? Did they test the middle ear?

my littlest had blue ear, hearing reduced by 40% in each ear. He had adenoids and grommit surgery at 18 months and he started to say words and by 2.5 had caught back up.

i would press the ENT for a further hearing test and ask whether she needs hearing aids or surgery.

in terms of tongue tie, both my children had theirs cut as newborns. I have a full tie and my understanding it doesn’t significantly delay speech.

hahe you spoken to your hv about concerns or if your child is in nursery, what is their view?
