Sun cream for child eczema

Which sunscreen is best for children with severe eczema?

Looking for advice and suggestions for sun cream for my son who has severe eczema. We go through a cycle of antibiotics, steroid cream plus all the others which go along with the routine.

we’ve tried:
p20 spf50 for kids
p20 spf59 sensitive
asda spf50 sensitive for kids
Nivea spf50 sensitive for kids
Nivea spf50 play and protect

All result in the skin blistering and burning. It’s so painful and sore. Then the steroid cream is back out again.

I’ve got to the point where I avoid using sun cream. It’s hats and long sleeves and trousers, swimwear with long arms.

Any advice would be gratefully received!

ps I did ask the doctor but said they couldn’t recommend anything!

the only one that has made a difference to DS is the new E45 suncream at boots. All the others have irritated the skin further. Hope this is helpful, it’s a minefield even the ones for baby and eczema prone skin never worked for us!

I have no affiliation with this but can't bear hearing about any child suffering with eczema. Please have a look at the Aron Regime. There is a doctor in North London who prescribes it and will do a zoom call beforehand to discuss. My baby had such bad eczema that he resembled a burns victim and after 1 month of using the compound cream it disappeared for good. There are some naysayers and critics of it but it's nothing more than moisturiser, steroid and antibiotic cream to eliminate the origin of the infection that is what makes eczema so persistent. It is life changing. Wishing you all the best.

Hi, we use Soltan once and their skin is fine with that. We have just weaned our child off steroids using a natural product and it has changed our life! We’ve gone from 5 wake ups a night through itching to one/two for comfort with no itching. It’s called Salcera and is expensive as you get through it quickly! I’ve just found it At Holland and Barrets where they have buy one get one half price. You can get a tester set off salcera’s website. Perhaps if you can get on top of the eczema his skin can tolerate suncream better as it’s not so angry / scratched/ scaly. Good luck

High street brands are unfortunately not great.
Altruist, or eucerin allergy. Both fab. Altruist readily available in sainsbury near me. as a pp said 30 and 50 are very similar but 50 blocks pores a lot more so we stick to 30 now. Wash off carefully with a double wash in the shower with whatever products are normal for your sensitive souls (carefully as in I think a lot of my cock up in the early days wasn’t so much the cream itself as my attempts to remove it!)

Avene after sun stings like blazes according to my child so I never tried their sun range.

Do not use steroid cream in the proper hot sun - wash it off first - you can use an hour earlier (then wash, sun cream and go)

Also second Dr Aron. The cream has saved both me and my daughter's skin. It's literally life changing.
