I know this is the summer holidays but my 11 year old is sleeping a lot. She started her periods April and we both kept a chart and for the first 3 months was regular. She has been to the GP and she said keep an eye summer holidays at how tired she is. She slept until 2 today! We got a pizza take out and she was out with a friend earlier and is now asleep again. No sign of her period which she hasn't had yet this month. . I know it's irregular at this age. She just seems so tired all the time, definitely more so since she started her periods. No issues getting her school and all that but she is going to secondary soon. Another thing since a small child, toddler she has had sensory issues, I never thought of adhd but did mention in her sensory report that might be autism but she has lots of friends. Very social and has no issues at school although we did try for an assessment with the school and they declined it(CAHMS) Only of her teachers said he noticed something, he never mentioned specifically adhd or asd, the whole time at primary he was the only one who mentioned neurodiversity, and he used to work in a SEN school. He made my dabber comfortable, and she loved him. Occupational therapy mentioned adhd but only recommended we go for assessments which cost 3k for both asd and adhd. I don't have that money! Her sensory issues around clothes/food has been tough going all these years. She explodes at times, but I've put it down to hormones recently but looking back we've always had these meltdowns, my mum used to call it her little 5 minutes. I'm going to go GP, another thing she doesn't have a fever or cold anything but I'm going to push blood tests as last time just before the summer holidays GP she said she looked fine around the eyes (no dark circles, clear eyes. No yellow. I don't honestly know if this tiredness and excessive sleeping is just physical or a sign of both neurodivergent and hormones etc. As a small child she slept ok, but sleep has always been an issues from 9 years old so more recent. Usually its getting to sleep so she can be fresh for school but now in the holidays its just too much sleeping! Anyone can advice

I remember thinking that DS was really unwell due the amount of sleep he needed at the age of 12/13. Turned out he just really needed sleep as he was growing so much. He’s now 19 and will likely sleep until midday on Sunday (working all week while on holiday from uni).

He is also ND and I think part of the sleeping is/was a need to reset and recover from the demands of the week.

That said, you know your child. If you are concerned, make a GP appointment.

Cf is a thing in ADHD. The brain has to work overtime all the time.

Not to be confused with but similar to ND burnout. Burnout means retreating and hiding.

ADHD meds completely cured my dd who had been out of school for 17 months. Like a switch being tripped.

Is it worth asking GP for blood tests, and maybe a referral for a diagnosis? I can't afford private at the moment. But do think it maybe help if it's adhd she could get help.
