Are these white bumps on my child’s tongue ulcers?

He has recently been sick with what I think was food poisoning (his brother who eat the same sausages also was sick while the brother who didn’t eat them is fine). We noticed shortly after his tongue had ulcers on and I also saw some inside his cheek. But the fact there’s so many has me confused and I’ve only ever had a random ulcer, never multiple. They’re really irritating and painful for him

That does look very sore. Poor baby. He looks too young to cope with salt water mouth wash, so I would give him plenty of drinks and avoid painful foods, for me they are Mostly sweet food like fruit or chocolate, and stick to bland food like scrambled eggs and porridge.

Thanks for your reply 😊 sorry I forgot his age - he’s 2 and a half. You’re absolutely right in that whenever he’s had chocolate it’s made him cry in pain so we’re working around it for now. Unfortunately as well he hates taking medicine like Calpol and won’t let us put a bonjela type gel on it either

Looks like an ulcer but I've never seen one that big. Poor thing must be painful.

I think he needs to go to the doctor. It's odd for a child to have such bad ulcers

fevertotell · 13/07/2024 20:26

Could it be thrush? My son many years ago had similar to these and it was thrush...

Poor lad, hope it gets sorted soon.

My daughter had this and it was HFM

Thanks everyone, we did take him to the GP on Friday but they just advised Calpol etc. However today he has woken up with itchy spots on his hands and feet so I’m pretty sure it is HFN - he also had it when he was a bag but with no ulcers
