Take to doctors or not? Chesty cough & hoarse voice

DS (2) was sent home from nursery yesterday with a temperature and wasn’t himself. He was okay at home but definitely quieter and cuddlier than usual. He has a cough, only once or twice an hour, but when he does cough it sounds extremely deep and hoarse. He was breathing really loud and wheezy during the night. He’s also losing his voice I think, it’s gone very high pitched and croaky. He seems kind of okay in himself, still happy and running about most of the time, but keeps telling me he doesn’t feel well (but I’m not sure if that’s because people keep mentioning the fact he’s not well!). I just about managed to do a covid test on him which was negative.

Our GP is quite far so I’m not sure whether to go or just monitor it - he’s never had chest problems before so I’m new to this. I did ask pharmacist who just suggested a covid test and not much else.

Thanks

I would just monitor at this stage. If he’s running round and happy in himself I wouldn’t be concerned and probably just a little virus from nursery. See how he is and there are always out of hours services to use if he worsens over the weekend but doctor will most probably say ride it out unless anything dramatically changes

I was thinking whooping cough op.

They go down very quickly with it and especially at that age.

I would and have with my own dc taken them to check before and it's sometimes been croup and sometimes not
