How long are ‘urgent’ waiting lists for tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy?

My son has been assessed as needing this operation. We were initially told that the waiting time would be about a year. Then we had a call a few days later to book him in for a pre-op assessment. I asked why they were doing it so soon if his operation wasn’t for a year, and they said that sometimes they have cancellations. When I asked again later, they said he is on the urgent list. At the pre-op assessment, they said that the pre-op is valid for 12 weeks, and if we have to wait more than that, he will have to do another assessment.

I can’t work out whether I should be expecting to wait a year, or 12 weeks! Can people please share their experiences of being on the “urgent” list for this op, and how long it took? (We’re in outer London / RFL if that makes any difference). Thanks!

Thanks @MassiveOvaryaction that’s a useful resource. Unfortunately it’s an average figure though, so it doesn’t distinguish between routine, urgent and two week pathway operations.

Would be great to hear from anyone with recent experience of waiting list times in London hospitals.
