Shoes for after ingrown toenail surgery

Hi
I don't know where to ask this really but I've googled unsuccessfully and am struggling for a solution! My 14 year old is having his ingrown toe nail sorted with surgery in a few weeks. He currently wears quite pointy shoes for school (just standard men's office shoes really) which won't be suitable but I can't find anything affordable that might give him more space while his toe is healing. He's got big feet, size 11-12, which doesn't help. All readily available and affordable shoes have at least some sort of pointiness to them, from what I can see.
Does anyone have experience of this and have any suggestions?

Oh I should have added that his feet aren't wide enough for wide fit shoes so they just need to be roomier around the toes... it seems impossible to find!

My son was allowed to wear trainers to school whilst his toe healed after toenail removal. He had Sketchers slip on ones. I would ask the school as no hard leather shoes will be comfortable for a while. It was several weeks before he could wear a normal shoe. Bare feet as much as possible when at home.

I wore steel toe capped Chelsea boots for a while after having both big toes done

Your not supposed to wear steel toe capped, says so on all paperwork

I had mine done years ago when I was still at school. healed in flip-flops. Couldn't have imagined wearing any kind of closed shoes. Luckily it's summer so the weather is a bit warmer.

Flip flops and a letter to school (from the doctor if necessary). Ingrown toenail surgery is agony, please don't spend money on shoes that only 'might' be acceptable to school and 'might not' press on his toe. Ouch

How comes? I was perfectly fine, I mainly wore them for work, in sliders the rest of the time.

My son is having this surgery soon. Luckily he can wear trainers to school (specialist school). I would ask for an exemption to the uniform on medical groups and get him some comfortable trainers to wear.

Ah yes, first two weeks is understandable - the size of the bandages would preclude them anyway. Thanks for sharing the leaflet, I was really puzzled. Steel toe caps are back on the approved list 👍
