Doctor said viral infection - is this normal?

Hi all just looking for advice and reassurance. Long one sorry ☹️

My son (4)was really poorly the last two days, yesterday I took him to urgent care because he was trembling, they checked him over and there was nothing, no inflamed ears or throat, chest was fine, checked his wee that was clear, so just said its just a viral infection and to keep up with the calpol and fluids.

I have awful health anxiety so I'm worrying so much. He's not really spiked a temp at all but he was trembling which the doctor said is just his body trying to fight off whatever it is. He's gone off his food and drink, he's eaten some crisps and stuff but he's not eating like he normally does and I have to keep asking him to drink some juice. He's also knackered but won't just go to sleep for a nap. Is this all normal with a viral infection?

He has no main symptoms so it's strange, he has a bit of a raspy cough but isn't coughing a lot at all, slightly stuffy nose but not why he usually has when he's got a cold, and hes just lacking energy really.

I guess I'm just looking for reassurance that this is all normal? Hes definitely not himself but he's not like completely lethargic and just laying down either, he has shown interest in playing a bit today but just doesn't have the energy really.

I'm so worried I just feel sick and can't leave his side 😣

They have done all the checks needed so please do no worry. He is eating and drinking a bit, which is good, and he does not have a raging temperature. Just keep an eye on him and report back to doc if anything major changes: bad headache, stiff neck, rash, high temperature.

Unfortunately children always get these non-specific viruses - they are a blessed nuisance - but this will be the first of many!

First you need to take a breath your anxiety will be making you spiral.

If the Dr said it was viral then I think you need to take each day as it comes he sounds like he is feeling rank keep up his fluids and sit with him if you want that's OK he hasn't got any worse and you have noticed a slight improvement. Offer small bits to eat and don't worry about full meals. If he isn't better by Wednesday see if you can get another appointment and keep up with the calpol. Obviously if he deteriorated get him seen
