Hi I was just putting brolene antibiotic eye drops in my child's eye and as he was fidgeting I missed his eye and it dropped down his face and went in his mouth. I'm freaking out wondering if I should take him a and e? He's 3 thank you

They don’t put toxic things in eye drops, the tear ducts, nose and throat are all connected anyway. Probably tastes vile but he’ll be fine.

Seeline · 02/04/2024 12:41

I wouldn't worry - everything is linked. I can always taste eye drops after I've used them, despite not actually getting any in my mouth.

If you're worried call the pharmacy and ask to speak to the pharmacist or call 111.

Thank you I've been freaking out he made a face obviously when it happened but he seems fine now . He's just gotten better from being ill it's the last thing I needed. I feel so stupid but he absolutely hates them but needs them for his irritated eyes

its all connected. I regularly need antibiotic drops and can always taste it when I use them. Don’t worry

Allmarbleslost · 02/04/2024 12:54

Anything thats safe to put in your eye is safe if ingested - all linked.

Singleandproud · 02/04/2024 12:54

He'll be fine, I was on a 6 month course of steroid eye drops and could taste them everytime I did them as all the face 'holes' are connected

I used to lie my DCs on the floor with their head between my knees whilst I knelt. Have them shut their eyes and aim for the inner corner. They can then blink the drop in once it's landed. Much easier.

UpsideLeft · 02/04/2024 13:44

You need to address your anxiety because if I'm you're freaking out over this your DC will become very emotionally affected

Hi I would never make it obvious in front of the children. I just let my thoughts wonder and panic internally. I have had therapy but yes it's something I'm still working on 😩

I definitely take that in mind thank you so much!

Putting something in your eye is virtually the same thing as putting something in your mouth. They're internally linked. Anything that's safe to put in your eye is safe to consume. The reverse is not always true (anyone else ever rubbed their eye after cooking with chillies?) but there's absolutely nothing to worry about here.
