Teenager with slapped cheek syndrome

Dd has been unwell for about 5 days. I've taken her to the pharmacy who agreed with my suspicion that it was slapped cheek and gave advice on treating at home and if she got worse to call 111.

Well today she has a slightly swollen face. This isn't too unusual for her, she has had this a few times before but GP just says it's an environmental allergy and we might never find out what causes it. She takes daily antihistamines.

She's sleepy and lacking appetite but is drinking, sleeping comfortably and doesn't have a fever.

If you were me, would you be happy to continue treating her at home. I don't have any serious concerns and doubt there is anything they could do for her but just wonder if I should get her checked out anyway?

Yes, if you're not seriously concerned, she's drinking and sleeping I'd say she's fine. She'll be ok without food for a few days

Thank you, I agree I'm not worried about her not eating.

Has she had her mumps jab and has she been in contact with anyone who has mumps? Swollen face isn't normal from what I remember from slapped face.

She's had all her vaccines, and no contact with mumps.

As I said, swollen face isn't that unusual for her, she has some unknown allergies but GPs don't seem overly bothered about them. My thinking is it all happening at once might be something that needs checking out.

How long has she had slapped cheek for?

my daughter didn’t perk up until about day 5. She was lethargic, sore throat, reduced appetite but drinking and passing urine.

if you’re not majorly concerned and there’s no alarming symptoms then I’d ride it out and keep an eye in her

She's had the rash since Tuesday but didn't really start feeling unwell until Thursday. We saw the pharmacist on Friday and the swelling started this morning.
