DD3 throat infection - 24 hours after antibiotics started and now white spots ?

DD aged 3 went to A&E yesterday as no GP appointments left and was very unwell in herself high temp lethargic and constant crying her throat was hurting :(

Her throat was very red raw and the doctors decided to give her penicillin. They couldn't tell if it was bacterial but as no one else at home has anything viral they decided to treat it as bacterial. (They don't swab in my area for some reason)

24 hours and 4 doses later she has really become upset again this evening and in tears about the pain in her throat. I checked this morning and it was the same as last night just very very red... but now before bed she has white spots that have appeared.

Do I give the antibiotics more time or rush her back to the gps in the morning ? I have seen it can take a few days to feel better but surely after 4 doses it shouldn't be progressing further ? If anything staying the same until it clears it? Any advice please ?

Thanks

I’d say it needs at least 48 hours to work -
keep up with regular
calpol and ibuprofen. If it’s bacterial the antibiotics will work soon and if it’s viral you just need to ride it out with rest, fluids and calpol / ibuprofen. Hope she feels
better soon xx

@OITNBfanclub thank you for your nice message :) I really hope so she just seems in more pain than 24 hours ago and these new white patches have worried me! X

Sounds like bacterial tonsillitis OP, my children and I have had it several times. I’d wait a bit longer for the antibiotics to work, it can sometimes take a while. Lots of ice cream or ice lollies help. Hope your DD is feeling better soon.

@Mumstheword37 thanks for your response! Her temp seems to have come down but she's got this on the roof of her mouth now ☹️ is this normal?

Yes that’s petichaie- Classic symptom of strep throat. She’s already on antibiotics so nothing to worry about - good spot!

@OITNBfanclub thanks I took her to gp who has given her a longer course. This afternoon she's now broken out in sores inside her cheeks and white patches. So strange !!! 😩
