Measles or reaction to HPV vaccine?

DS 12 had his first HPV vaccine injection a few weeks ago and now has a rash on his body and limbs but not his face or behind his ears. It started on his feet as darker red spots and has now appeared on his torso, arms and legs. However, the spots on his body are different from the ones on his feet as they’re lighter and slightly larger.

He feels fine. He had his measles vaccine when a baby. He did get measles between his first and second vaccines so not sure if he is one of the few who will still get measles even though vaccinated.

I’ve attached pictures of his feet and torso, does this look like measles?

Many thanks.

I’d be surprised if it’s a reaction to the HPV after this time. Is it like sandpaper?

If he's well in himself and has had measles before and measles vaccines, I don't think it's likely to be measles.

I also think a few weeks between HPV vaccine and rash would be unlikely, so another culprit is needed.

Does the rash blanch (go white) under glass?

No, it’s lightly raised but soft.

The ones on his body do blanch but the ones on his feet don’t, they are quite raised.

Has he had two MMR’s?

Yes but got measles between the 2 doses.

Just checking as you only mentioned measles, so I was wondering about rubella.

SheerGenius · 17/02/2024 21:27

Sorry, yes, it was MMR

Personally, I would call 111 and take advice as it's Saturday night so you won't see a GP tomorrow.
