7.5 month old at loud party - so so worried

Hello,

Yesterday we tool our baby to an engagement party. Pre-empting it would be loud, we bought some ear defenders for our 7.5 month old baby.

When we arrived, we noticed out assigned seating was next to the speakers. When the couple made the way to the front the music was unbelivably loud. I'm talking rock concert loud. Multiple people asked the DJ to turn the music down. As soon as I was able, I took her to the corridor where it was quieter. This was after about 10-15 minutes.

I tried re-entering the room, but I eventually decided it was way too loud and so decoded to go home. In total, I think she was exposed for around 30 minutes.

I am now sick with worry that I have damaged my baby's hearing. I feel like an idiot. And I am so upset. Any reassurence would be appreciated - I can't sleep with worry

No, I think your baby's hearing won't be damaged by this.

All will be good, stop stressing, they had ear defenders.

Your baby will be fine OP

She will be fine. Well done for thinking of the ear defenders

Given your baby was wearing ear defenders, I'm not sure why you are so worried?

AOMum · 04/02/2024 08:21

Thank you for all of your responses! I'm worried mostly as the music was so loud, that even with the ear defenders, it would have been loud.

I think I am also worried as my usually calm partner is worried, which throws me right off. I think we are both feeling guilty- we both felt too awkward to take her out earlier as we had been asked to sit, prayers were happening (while the music BOOMED). But I am my daughters advocate and I should have thought 'your ears are worth more than social graces'

I have learnt my lesson though!

I should probably also mention that both of my partner and I have tinnitus from loud music exposure that we have had for years so we are both extra sensitive to the risks of loud music

prayers were happening (while the music BOOMED)

I'm finding it hard to imagine this?!

Prayers being said whilst music was thundering at super high volume?
What religion is this?

You did the right thing and left.
Your child will be fine.
