Hello I am at a loss with my 9 year . She has been a poo withholder from about 2 years. Tried many things but nothing is really helping. She actually said to me last night how she wishes it would all go away and she didn’t have it. I am beginning to wonder if she actually has a lazy bowel or an obstruction of some kind. I Am at a loss . Literally don’t know where to turn. Think I will make a doctors appointment this week . It’s such an awful thing no body talks about really. Any mums who can help at all, maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel ?

A referral to a gastro would be appropriate. It's unlikely to be an obstruction as they are acute not chronic. Has she had an Xray to check faecal loading?

If she is motivated and taking the meds, it's probably not withholding but could be slow transit. Good luck!
