Skegness father and son death. Branson Battersby

I was truly shocked today when I read an article about Branson Battersby, I couldn't stop crying. I have a two year old son.
Where were the relatives, the neighbors? Why didn't social services make an effort to open the flat sooner? Is our society irreversibly broken?

Is really heartbreaking. That poor boy

Social workers don't have powers of entry. The social worker called three times when no one else did, and contacted the police and then the landlord. Don't castigate the one person who had this child on their radar and tried repeatedly to raise the alarm. Can you imagine how they must be feeling right now, knowing they were so close to being able to prevent a tragedy? They need our support not criticism.

noctiscaelum · 18/01/2024 17:04

I was quite surprised that his mother didn't even check on him, knowing his ex was vulnerable enough to warrant regular check ups from social services.
And I agree that I don't think social services is at fault, they contacted police multiple times etc, and only one who was worried enough to visit multiple times during this period.

NoTouch · 18/01/2024 17:26

Heart-breaking story. Based on what has been reported I cannot see how anyone can place any fault with any of the services or neighbours.

Mywhoopdeedoo · 18/01/2024 17:29

Mother didn’t bother to check on him over Xmas ????

Check your facts about the powers of social care.

Many many people failed that little boy but that poor social worker wasn't one of them.
People like you are one of the reasons why left social care!

Didn’t this Mother have 10 children?

Why don't you post on the other thread? At least that had the virtue of some grounding in fact.

sockmuncher · 18/01/2024 18:14

Social services did everything they could.

His waste of space mother didn't check on him once during Christmas and the New Year? It's hilarious that's she's now trying to blame social services.

Roselilly36 · 18/01/2024 18:15

So sad, that poor little boy, I dread to think of him hungry, thirsty, and no doubt trying to wake up his daddy. Absolutely horrendous, where was his mum?

User13579367337 · 18/01/2024 18:15

Why are you blaming the social workers? They went above and beyond what they had to do. And what’s the neighbours got to do with it? If anything the fault lies with the mother

Didn’t this Mother have 10 children?

I read, but I don't know if it was true, that she has 3 current toddlers. She left with two.

I think it would be disingenuous for anyone to think they know facts. There's a lot of a story to come out, and I doubt it's about social workers or the police.

woodlandtrees · 18/01/2024 18:15

I don't think social care are to blame.

They have no peers of entry but police do. They were called twice and didn't attend.

Yes, apparently she has 10 children. Another boy died a few years ago.

And yes, she is blaming social services.

Unbelievable

tallcurvey · 18/01/2024 18:21

Definitely not social
Services fault

How can a mum not want to see her two year old for so long

It's sad some people are parents

PSEnny · 18/01/2024 18:23

Horribly tragic. Not social services fault. Poor little boy born into circumstances he didn’t deserve.

Didn’t this Mother have 10 children?

I read that in the Daily Fail, but thought it was typo as later it only mentioned 3 kids (another who died at 7 or 8 years old)

Didn’t this Mother have 10 children?

The mother has about a dozen Facebook pages all with various aliases. Periodically, she wishes someone a happy birthday from Mummy. These appear to be her various children, some of whom are in their twenties now. None appear to be in her life. I have no idea what has happened in her life, but it appears to be an utter car crash with children strewn across the decades.

Mother didn’t bother to check on him over Xmas ????

One paper reported she hadn't seen him since November when she and the dad had an argument and she was giving him "space" and planned to see him "this month".

One reported the dad had sole custody, another reported they decided Branson would live with his dad because she had unsafe stairs at her house. But why would you move you toddler to live with their dad where the situation was so bad their dad asked for SS help because he couldn't cope?

A heart breaking life for poor little Branson. The sad thing is there will be many more kids living in similar circumstances - he is just this weeks story.

Shf · 18/01/2024 18:40

It’s such a heart breaking story but I fail to see how social services or the police are at fault here. In an ideal work everyone would have enough family and friends around them that this couldn’t happen but it was an absolutely tragic set of circumstances, not one persons fault.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 18/01/2024 18:46

It is truly heartbreaking and that poor little boy should have been with someone who was able to care for him and not for his little life to end like that. Just shocking and that mother should not have any more children. It will be the usual lessons will be learned story. Just so sad and how afraid and in pain he must have been.

Mywhoopdeedoo · 18/01/2024 18:56

The mother has several public profiles and is kicking off about people talking to the press

Mochudubh · 18/01/2024 21:13

The child's name was Bronson, at least give him the dignity in death of getting his name right.
