Toddler face rash and sore tongue

My son has a rash around his chin/ mouth and sores on his tongue for the 3rd time in around 5 months.

Im so confused as to what it could be.

I know it sounds like it's HFAM but this is the 3rd time it's re appeared in a short period of time and he doesn't get it anywhere else. Can that really happen every time or does anyone have any suggestions as to something else it could be?

I've tried the drs the first times it happened and they just say it's HFAM and don't explore other options

Could it be scarlet fever?

Oneearringlost · 09/01/2024 10:58

Impetigo?

IlonaRN · 09/01/2024 11:24

Could it be herpes?

Is it little blisters in his mouth? Could be hand, foot and mouth. My DD didn't get anything on her hands and feet until last day and even then it was 2 spots but she had a lot around and in mouth x

If it was scarlet fever or impetigo, I just find it strange it's the same area every time, it doesn't seem to spread anywhere else.

I don't think it's cold sore/ herpes as his mouth comes up with lots as opposed to just one and sometimes they look better one day and the next it's bad again

@Amyc94 What age is your son? It does look similar to when my son had HFAM but also similar to when friends son had an allergy? Can you think of anything that he’s been exposed to at those times?

Gabby10 · 09/01/2024 14:43

It could be an allergy or irritation from dummy/bottle. Might be worth nipping to the chemist and seeing they can give you any steroid cream. Plus if it is impetigo that's what the dr would give anyway, I think the one my DD had is called Eumovate x

@Inyourwildestdreams he is 18 months old.

If he hadn't had it so regularly I would say it was HFAM

He doesn't have a bottle or dummy, but an allergy is something we will look into, thank you .

When I went to the chemist last time they said he needs to go to the drs which we did both times but they just said HFAM can reoccur, just odd all 3 times it hasnt spread elsewhere

He does still breastfeed to go to bed, now I'm thinking could it be something to do with this?

@Amyc94 Definitely worth considering the possibility of allergy. I would pick up a bottle of Junior Piriton syrup to keep handy just so you have it 😊
