Fishy smelly pants and penis DS3

For starters - I’m not a troll and haven’t name changed for this (penis beaker etc). looking for anyone who has experienced this in their DS and advice on what helped. I’ll obviously go to GP in next couple of days too.

I’ve noticed in the last week that my DS has smelled really bad when I’ve taken him to toilet, changed his nappy (still used at night) or come to put his PJs on at night. Foul, strong fishy smell - really horrible. It’s required a bath or shower at both ends of the day and then hot soapy flannel wipes through the day. I’m also trying to change his undies frequently. This is new and much more than the fusty downstairs smell that boys seem to get (and much worse than the stale water smell if creases haven’t been fully dried).

I don’t think his urine smells, he doesn’t report pain and his penis doesn’t look swollen. We don’t pull his foreskin back to wash. The only other indicator is a small wet patch when I went to change him tonight which made me wonder about an infection. Any experiences or advice appreciated.

Has he pushed something under his foreskin? Ndn had a dd with similar. She had pushed a tiny plastic toy pig in there...

Possibly an infection causing the odour? See if you can book an ANP appointment tomorrow to get his urine dipped.

Has he been eating anything different recently? Some vegetables make urine smell weird like asparagus, or brussel sprouts?

Okaaaay · 26/12/2023 22:26

I don’t think there is anything up there, though there is a small skin tag with a tiny bit of white on it. Thought it was fluff (looks like fluff) but when I came to remove it hurt and wouldn’t come. Really odd.

Definitely worse than the smell you get from random veg but good thought.

Could it be ketones in his urine? This can be a symptom of diabetes. I'd get him checked out by a doctor.

TheWeatherOutsideIs · 26/12/2023 22:41

Sounds like a UTI possibly. When my DD3 had one my god, the smell.

Okaaaay · 26/12/2023 23:23

I think ketones are sweet smelling not foul but will check. Possible UTI, it’s possible he’s leaking a bit which is why his pants are so bad. Weirdly I haven’t noticed his nappies being so smelly hence didn’t immediately think UTI.

How old is he? Could it be smegma inside his foreskin?

Okaaaay · 26/12/2023 23:57

He’s 3 - possibly smegma but wouldn’t a good soak and soap have improved this

Possibly not fully, DS is older but had similar symptoms and it turned out to be underneath the foreskin which he couldn’t pull back due to tightness. Maybe try and gently pull back his foreskin whilst he’s in the bath but don’t force it back if it doesn’t naturally
