Heel prick test ‘borderline’ and congenital hypothyroidism.

Hi all,

Not sure I will get much response as this is quite an unusual condition.

My baby had his 5 day heel prick test (he is 15 days old today) and on Friday we received a call from the midwife to say that it was ‘borderline’ for congenital hypothyroidism.

We had a repeat test on Saturday and we are awaiting the results.

My baby is very healthy and settled. He feeds well, generally sleeps 2/3 hours per day and night and wakes for feeds. He is a hungry little boy and was born 6lbs 12 and is now 7lbs 5. He is on the 25th centile for his height and weight and head circumference. He had jaundice for only a few days after birth and was born via section.

I am obviously extremely worried about him and concerned that he may have this condition. He is my baby and I just want him to be okay. I’ve barely slept thinking about it all.

The midwife advised that it is a rare condition and that in her experience the tests often have to be repeated and often come back clear the second time.

My question is, does anyone else have any experience of the tests being borderline and what was the outcome? Are there any health visitors or midwives on here that have also experience of this?

Thanks in advance
