Length of time in-between antibiotic doses

Hi, my DD1 was prescribed amoxicillan on Friday. The dose is 100mg, 3 x per day, and the pharmacist said 8 hours apart. As she is unwell and wanting to sleep more I hate having to wake her at stupid times in the morning to get a dose down her which really unsettles her and takes a while getting her back down. I'm sure we used to take antibiotics about 6 hours apart? I can never remember having to get up at like 3 AM to take them!? Is it OK to give the 3 doses, 6 hours apart? So tomorrow for example I could give her one at 7 AM, 1 PM and then 7PM ready for bed.

TIA

@121gigawatts

6 hours apart was for four times a day.
stick the the 8 hours as that keeps the right levels in the systém

or as close as you can

Nobody wakes people in hospital to give them antibiotics 8 hours apart so I don't see why you should have to at home.

Breakfast, lunch, bedtime.

I've always gone with my timings and they have always worked....you do what's best for you.

Three times a day here is breakfast , lunch and tea .

I would give 3 times during the day. No way would I wake a child for a dose overnight.

Devilsmommy · 17/09/2023 20:30

Yep, that's what I've been doing myself with amoxacillin this past 5 days. 6-12-6

If you can get them eight hours apart, then try to do that. So if she is awake and it's almost time for a dose, then give then. Otherwise, as spaced apart as possible and never closer than three hours apart. NHS website says first thing, mid afternoon and bedtime.

Thanks everyone. Today I did 7 AM, 1.30 PM and 8PM. So, 6.5 hours apart. Obviously the 7 AM one was overdue but I couldn't keep waking her at 4 AM, it was awful trying to get it down her then. Will be glad when it's finished, I've had to administer it in a 1ml syringe, so 5 x 1ml's because it's the only way she doesn't spit it out! I remember amoxicillan being very palatable as a child but she asks like we're trying to poison her!
