My baby usually goes to bed for the night between 5-6pm sometimes she’ll stay up later but today she decided her bed time was at 4:30pm and started getting fussy and crying till I put her to bed she’s still asleep which means she’s asleep for the night is this normal? She’s 16 nearly 17 weeks

I’ve never heard of babies sleeping this long ever, and I have 3. Mine all go to bed about 8 and are all up before 7. What is your secret?

Isthisexpected · 05/09/2023 20:05

I assume your baby is going through a leap or going to wake you in the middle of the night. It's not the common for a young baby's sleep to remain consistent. The best advice I ever got was parent the baby you have today, forget about yesterday's baby. It meant I stopped obsessing over routines that no longer served us well.

Flittingaboutagain · 05/09/2023 20:07

Is she breast fed? This seems very unusual to me as babies have such tiny stomachs they are supposed to wake frequently for feeds. Do you practice paced feeding if using bottles or cups?

FoodFann · 05/09/2023 20:20

If she does 4:30pm - 9am, I would maybe wonder if she was coming down with a cold or something, check her temp etc. but 4:30-6am I think is fine. My baby did 5pm - 7am until she was 8 months old, and bedtime would sometimes be earlier than that if she decided. No problems with her 😊

Vergeofbreakdown23 · 05/09/2023 20:28

Could be having a growth spurt - she may well wake you early in the morning. Keep an eye on her - my youngest used to sleep from 6pm through till 8.30am and longer sometimes x

@Lollibert ive just seen your other post about your baby’s breathe smelling / sounding weird. Any worries about your newborn should be raised with your HV or GP. No one here can give you the reassurance you need. You need to speak to a healthcare professional as you do seem very anxious. I mean this kindly btw.

ChristianCheater · 05/09/2023 20:58

Mine did this occasionally, they would then wake an hour earlier in the morning.
I remember my nearly 4 month old sleeping 14 hours in a row. He started doing 9-9 and I gradually put him into bed earlier but he kept the 9am wake up.

Lollibert · 05/09/2023 21:40

@Songbird74 no it doesn’t sound or smell weird but her chest does that weird thing that babies with rsv or bronchitis do with the ribs but she’s been breathing like that since birth I did raise concerns but the midwife wasn’t worried said she’s pink and her lips aren’t blue and she’s not taking more than 60 breaths per minute

If she wakes at 9am and goes to sleep at 5pm and doesnt have milk in the night…
She wont be having enough milk in that time frame

Lollibert · 07/09/2023 09:42

@PeopleAreWeird she averages about 25-30 oz per day sometimes more
