Any other parents of kids with MCDK on here?

My 6 month old has just officially been confirmed to have MCDK (spotted on 20 week scan). I generally feel ok about it all - I know most kids live normal lives and he's happy and healthy - but would love to hear others' experiences! Do any of you adhere to a low sodium diet?

Hi, my little baby is also the same. He is 10 weeks, we have had a DMSA scan which showed no function in left kidney. I go through phases of worry hence why I'm on this forum after 1am 😂 I am waiting on official formal results of that scan. Did you have a DMSA scan done too?

We just had this diagnosis on our anatomy scan before Christmas. We're going to be scanned every 4 weeks and referred to urology. I'm just hoping the next scan will show the normal kidney as still being normal and then I might relax

Apologies both I got signed out on my phone and didn't realise there were responses! Yes, he has had a DMSA scan which showed no function in his cystic kidney. We've had a few scans and tests now but now we don't have one until next year as they are happy that his other kidney is functioning well.

@Mazzaroo2022 I hope your next scan went well - I was exactly the same but my little one is totally fine. To be honest, I forget most days that he only has one kidney!

@LizziBee Thanks for the message. Yes it was all fine in the end. I was so worried as the consultant was very negative and really focused on if an issue were to occur with the other kidney. We've had lots of scans since though and the right kidney is normal with normal amounts of amniotic fluid. 6 weeks to go til we meet her 😊

Oh I'm sorry about that - our consultant did also warn about this but she was also very reassuring about the prognosis generally. Glad things are all going well and enjoy the newborn snuggles!

Hi, yes, my son is now 16 and had MCDK. This essentially took care of itself and the whole thing was eventually reabsorbed by his body. He lives a healthy life with just the one kidney. The only effect on us has been a few "just to check" scans over the years.

This is so good to know, thank you!
