Does anyone know what this could possibly be? Toddler has developed this freckle
like mark under his toenail and I’m unsure if I should contact GP. Thanks in advance

It looks like it could be a tiny blood blister? Did they bang their toe or drop something on it? I would see if it grows out in the next few weeks. If not then see the Gp.

@bluejelly Not that I’m aware of but it is possible. He attends nursery too so could have happened there and it has been quite suddenly it’s appeared. I just started to wonder as it’s been over a week now and it doesn’t seem to be fading. Thank you

Please contact the GP. It can be anything from just the old blood under the nail as the result of minor injury to more serious skin issues. Best to check with the GP.

It isn’t a melanoma. Melanomas develop in the base of the nail where it joins the skin. They don’t appear in the centre with clear nail all around them.

I’d say blood blister. Perhaps he stubbed his toe / had something drop on it? Bruising under the nail moves with the nail growth. Melanomas don’t: it will stay at the base of the nail and continue with the growth of the nail until it created one long brownish line.
