HELP- Comfort milk making baby worse?

We're looking for advice please. We were on kendamil original milk and baby was experiencing following symptoms

  • occasional spit up
  • gulping noises after feeds
  • poo during every feed (up to 8-10 times a day)
  • if not burped after every 1 oz then sick
  • occasional unsettled actions - leg movements to chest and arched back

We went to the GP who recommended comfort milk. We've been on C&G comfort milk for last 5 feeds and he is SO unhappy. It's almost impossible to burp him and he's crying, unsettled and just not massively happy. He's had 1 poo in 5 bottles which I'm not worried about as I know he needs to adjust.

He was 9 lb 10 when born and lost 1 lb in first week. He's now 10 lb 5/6 ish - so I'm worried about whether he's gaining the right amount of weight. GP wasn't interested in confirming this.

We don't know whether to go back to kendamil and maybe these were normal newborn symptoms?

P.s we were also giving colief and infacol on kendamil. Only infacol on comfort milk but no burps coming up.

Please help!! I'm at my wits end.

Sorry I should add he's 5 weeks old.

Was he unhappy on the kendamil? Mine were breastfed but they all pooed loads at first, and two of mine were pukers. It never bothered them though.

I'm not sure he was unhappy as such but just showed signs of maybe reflux so we didn't know if the formula was too rich for him. But then he's been more cry-y and generally unhappy since switching him to C&G. It's hard to know whether it's the milk and/or just him being a newborn and needing to mature his stomach.

They all seems like pretty normal newborn things, maybe the arching I would look at. I would speak to your health visitor over your GP if concerned, they are usually more helpful with this kinda thing.

Comfort milk makes them constipated as it thickens everything. Have you tried paced feeding as it helps stop them taking in so much air.

Kendamil is made with full fat cow's milk and even if that sounds lovely it's a bit much for some kids. I know lots of babies who were diagnosed with CMPA (cows milk protein allergy) whilst on kendamil that were absolutely ok on other formulas.
Have you tried him on a different formula? Hipp organic used to be really good for sensitive tummies, but there are lots of other options.
Comfort formula is usually hydrolysed, meaning that the protein is a bit more broken down for them so it's easier to digest, but if baby is genuinely allergic to cow's milk they might need a prescription milk.

We had horrendous issues with our youngest DD and we ended up on goat milk formula, which worked wonders for her. Pricey though. If you have any questions feel free to ask OP!
