Are you in the U.K.? Can you ring 111? Usually they’ll tell you a dr/nurse will call you back then when they do they may give you an out of hours GP appointment for this evening? Is the temp coming down with calpol/nurofen?

I've had it with my dc. With ds it was recurrent ear infections, but with both the girls it was that they were run down after one infection so caught another.

Put your ear to their chest (back and front) and get them to breathe (and possibly cough). Can you hear crackling or squeaking? Does the cough sound like it's shifting anything? Does it hurt him to breathe/cough in the chest?
If so, phone 111 and tell them that they have a chest infection that may not have been fully cleared by antibiotics. They should get an appointment for you. If you can't hear anything other than breaths, then keep an eye on it and get an appointment to get it checked out.

With my oldest girl she had antibiotic resistant pneumonia at 8yo. What was noticeable was her condition worsened in the first 48 hours after she'd started the first lot of antibiotics, and the GP was worried enough to be coming to our house twice a day (this was in 2009, so not that long ago). He then gave her two different lots of strong antibiotics and she had to take them all for 3 weeks (if I remember rightly) to make sure it had gone. It did take time to recover, but she did once the antibiotics were making a difference.

BUT this isn't what's happened with your ds. You've said he recovered for a week. Now it might be that he hadn't quite got rid of it and it's flared up again. But if he hadn't been recovering at all, then he'd have been noticeably getting worse over this time, so it has responded to the antibiotics, which is a really positive sign.
However what really knocked my dd was shortly after recovering from pneumonia she picked up every bug going for a while, and that is what I suspect has happened to your ds.

Don't worry too much! I know that's hard.

@Daisy yes we're in UK London yes the temp did come down with calpol. It held it for 6 hours and now the fever is back now given Nurofen. I will call GP tomorrow at 8am they have same day appointments if you call really early.
@ Margaret he isnt coughing like last week when he had chest infection nor has a cold. It had stated with coughing & congestion then fever set in and dr started amoxicillin as could hear crackling. But this time the fever set in no cold or cough. We took him yesterday to soft play and he had attended school Reception 4 days last week. I am just hoping it's a viral and no complications from h his previous infection. Though I may mention the GP we went back to after 2 days of antibiotics as ds was crying with bad timmy ache mentioned he could hear a murmur in his heart and to get him back after 4 weeks to check again.

Thank you to both of you to taking the time to reply to me.

Hi OP just wondered what the outcome was. My ds (7) has completed a 10 day course of antibiotics for tonsillitis on Wednesday. Last night he started saying he felt hot and had a headache. I've been up with him since 1am as his temperature was 38.9 and he felt unwell.

Seems really too soon to be an infection again. His tonsils are fine and he there's nothing specific I can put my finger on.

@Elderberrybabe hope your son's feeling better now.
In our case the Dr said he may have picked a viral infection as unlikely for bacterial so soon. We waited and in 2-3 days he felt better and this time (2nd) he also had an inflamed throat.
But I would press the drs again to check as if you read the amoxicillin leaflet (if he was on it) it does say like a side effect fever can come back in 10days.
In most likely case he must have picked another bug or virus especially if he was back at school.

Thank you so much for replying. I'm glad your ds is better. It's horrible when they're ill so often. My ds is still running a low grade fever with occasional spikes. He's perked up this afternoon a bit but still looks poorly.
He says there's nothing making him feel poorly apart from a slight headache. I think if he's still the same tomorrow I may take him to the walk in centre. I'm pretty sure it's viral but it doesn't stop my mind from spiralling.

Had no idea about amoxicillin. He was on phenoxymethylpenicillin which as its the same group of antibiotics maybe the side effects are the same.

@Elderberrybabe can I ask what was causing the fever to come back soo soon. My daughters fever just went up again after a day of finishing the same antibiotics… never happened before and I’m a bit worried 😔
