Hi,
I don’t know if I am being ridiculous but I’m worried my son may have diabetes. (Two of my sisters have type one diabetes, I don’t know if this puts him at more risk).

He was never a good drinker, I always remember worrying he wasn’t drinking enough, anyway recently I’ve notice he seems to be drinking so much more, he has 2 bottles of milk a day approx 6oz, then throughout the day I feel like I’m regularly topping up his sippy cup of water, can’t think how much he’s having of water as have only just started to worry about it. Anyway today I notice his nappies are extremely full they are leaking.

Hes fine in himself, it’s just the thirst and wet nappies that have started. Has anyone else’s little ones been the same?

thanks

Is the weather warmer with you then it has been? If they're fine in themselves I would assume they are drinking more for the warmer weather which naturally means more wet nappies.

Autoimmunes tend to run in families.
If you're worried I'd get him checked

How recently? If it's just the last day or two then I'd suggest it could be a sore throat- I remember my now 6yo was terrible for drinking water other than in the day or so before he became ill, when he'd chug so much his nappies would explode. Once he could talk, we realised he was having sore throats and drinks soothed them a little. If it's longer than that, though, I'd get him checked out ASAP as you don't want to mess around with untreated diabetes as I'm sure you know.

I would definitely take him to the GP to get checked out.

No you're not being ridiculous at all, he has two aunts with T1D and also elevated thirst and urination.
You know he needs to needs to be checked without delay, please call 111 for him tonight.
