Hello everyone, I wondered if anybody is going through/has gone through the same thing as me in any way and could help me to understand what’s going on with my little one.

I had my baby boy In march, he was 1 month premie and had to be put in NICU for 2 weeks on CPAP oxygen support. Since we got home with him, he has been congested. Initially I was expressing breast milk but with the stress of everything moved to SMA. This is when he became congested, health visitor suggested CMPA so we tried comfort milks, and now Nutramigen fully hydrolysed formula. The thing is, he has been having breathing retractions now for 4 weeks. I called the GP, they said this was a medical emergency and told me to call 999. Considering he wasn’t floppy or blue, was feeding fine and gaining weight I decided to call 111 but they got an ambulance anyway, to which we spend 11hrs in a&e, for them to say he has bronchiolitis. However it’s been 3 weeks now, he’s still congested, still struggling to breathe. Still getting retractions. I’ve been to the GP twice, they tell me he’s fine because he is gaining weight. However he’s not fine - he is in constant distress after feeds. He definitely has reflux, as he’s been sick a lot more recently and is worse after each feed. I’ve tried the below:

-keeping upright for 30min after feeding
-saline drops
-olbus oil/snuffle babe
-steam from shower
-not shaking bottles / swilling them instead
-feeding little and often. Feeding more and less frequent.
-infant Gavisgon

these are all to name a few but I’m at the point now close to breaking point. He’s getting nowhere near enough sleep due to all of this and neither am I, I’m awake every hour with him in the night. He is in constant discomfort, constant fussiness and nothing seems to help. Any suggestions? It’s clearly not CMPA because the congestion is still there so i wonder, does anyone else’s baby have this and have you found the cause or atleast a solution to make life slightly easier?

im a first time mum, so my anxiety with this is huge after him turning blue when born and needing serious oxygen support. GP’s don’t seem to care, and just tell me to keep doing what I’m doing, but I know so well that my baby is incredibly unhappy 😞

Yes you could be describing my second son. We had very little help either but it does get better with time as they grow older. I'm just thankful we had mediced back in those days (19 years ago) so it would knock him out one night per week

Does he have any stridor breathing?

Maybe check out Laryngomalacia, not sure if symptoms are similar. Also, it can take up to 6 wks for dairy protein to leave body, so might take a little longer off the milk. Keep going back to GP and follow your instincts 💐
