Hi, my ds5 had a cough from Monday with snooty nose but otherwise we'll. But since Tuesday evening he' been getting high fever. But nurofen wa holding it off for almost 10 hours. But since yesterday it can only hold it for 5 -6 hours and calpol does nothing to reduce it. We have been up all night due to high fevers & fast breathing. Eventually headed to a&e at 6am the Dr heard his chest & said has chest infection and started on Antibiotics Amoxly.

I gave his 1st dose at 10am & 11:30 gave nurofen as his temp had reached 40.1C now his temp came down but now again his raised to 38C not sure why nurofen is not holding it. I need some handholding as I don't know where to go now....
Please any mom's out there can help.
Thanks

@Fireandflames666 I had been doing it but calpol would not do much in terms of reducing his temp & even if it did reduce it alittle it lasted only 2 to 3 hours. But now that he has started antibiotics I am hoping the fever resolves. Though it reached 40c this morning at 2am gave him nurofen.

Please don’t worry so much about his temperature - the guidance now is to use paracetamol/ibuprofen if they feel rotten (“appear distressed”) but not to use it specifically or only to reduce temperature. You have antibiotics for his chest infection and good guidance from the hospital/gp.

Today started off ok but later this afternoon ds coughing bout started so bad & he had a huge huge vomit. He had been coughing continuously for over an hour just non stop and the last time he had chest infection (Oct last year) he had immediate improvement by 1st dose. Then he was crying so hard due to tummy ache that we had to rush to GP. Who check him and said he thinks it's Viral now & to just continue with the AB anyways also he said his neck glands are up which I can understand why & he can hear flow murmur...now it has added to my worry. Does anyone know on this. The GP said to go back in 4 weeks he wants to check his lymph nodes & hear his heart again. Ds is off solids completely and on sips of dioralyte.

Hope your son has fully recovered.

My son has these same symptoms after returning from a holiday. Cough, then runny nose, started 6 days ago, very high temps 40.1 not eating, now crying with tummy ache. Had him checked at gp this morning who said viral. Just wondered if anyone else having these symptoms? Such a nasty virus, I assumed strep but doc said no signs

A "murmur" just means there is an extra noise to hear when listening to the chest. Children with fevers often have fast heart rates so the blood is flowing faster, meaning more turbulence which can be heard. If so if will be gone again when listened to again.

Very occasionally the murmur means an extra connection within the heart only being heard for the first time, in a child who has always been unwell this is unlikely and severe abnormalities very very unlikely.

Raised lymph nodes are a normal part of the response to infection, the GP is being diligent by checking they aren't behaving abnormally by sticking around longer than expected (even then, this is often normal).
