14 month old has Diarrhea bug and refuses to eat

My little one is 14 months and come down with a bug.
He's had diarrhea for about 24 hours now and a slight temp. I think he's picked a bug up from nursery.
He's still really off of his food when normally he'll eat everything. At the moment all he'll eat is yoghurt. He is drinking but not tons as I think he still has a bit of tummy discomfort.
I'm just getting a little bit worried because I don't want him to develop a negative relationship with food thinking that it'll make him feel sick...and it's breaking my heart to see him so lethargic :(

I know he'll be off of his food whilst he's poorly but is there any way to encourage him to eat or drink more? Desperate for advice...just want him to get his strength back 😔

Ice lolly?

Custard?
Jelly?
Fruit salad?

All easy to eat when you are sick.

One illness is very very unlikely to cause a negative connection with food. I know it’s hard not to worry though

I don't think you need to worry about a negative relationship with food. Kids will have loads of bugs when little that will put them off food for a bit but they don't all develop problems eating long term.

I'd just keep offering, let him eat what he wants, try some toast and jam?

I wouldn't worry if he doesn't feel like eating, particularly with a tummy bug.
Regularly offer small amounts of water and plain salty or sweet food eg crisps, rich tea biscuits. ( this was advice given to me by paediatric A & E sister once )

It sounds totally normal for a tummy bug; just wait it out

The only time I'd be worried (after 3dc) is if DC was very lethargic and not eating/drinking anything.

Children go off food when they have a tummy bug, just like adults do. It's very normal to have a reduced appetite. I would offer toast and make sure he drinks but other than that don't worry.

Could it be parvo?

Sorry wrong thread 🫣

Yes, very normal for children to go off food for days with a stomach bug. As long as they're drinking, then it's not a problem. Keep an eye out for signs of dehydration (symptoms on NHS website).

I would avoid dairy (Inc yoghurt) though as stomach bugs can cause temporary lactose intolerance which can prolong diarrhea.
