Will start by saying have already decided to take DD to GP next week if no improvement. Just curious as to others’ experiences.

DD is 4. Hasn’t really tended to suffer with coughs. She started waking up coughing in the mornings (5:30/6 ish), not awfully, often falling back to sleep.

Started about 2-3 weeks ago. she is sometimes coughing in the day now also. No other symptoms. No runny nose, temp, tonsils look clear etc. Fine in herself.

We’ve tried olbas oil on a tissue and run the humidifier overnight in case she’s a bit congested. Makes no difference.

Anyone had similar? Cough sounds a bit wet, so assumed a cold was brewing but never appeared. Could it be allergies?

As an aside, DH and I have both had strep throat this week; however, based on how wretched we’ve felt I can’t think it’s that?!

My DD who is 4 had the same problem a month ago. A course of antibiotics from GP was the only thing that helped. DD used to cough the entire night sometimes sleeping for 30-45mina before waking up with cough again. Also I rinsed her nose with saline nasal drops and gave her steam inhalation every night before going to sleep. Hope your DD gets well soon I know how awful it is.

@thewomaninme thanks for the reply. That sounds awful! At least DD is getting a decent ish night’s sleep…just an early wake!

I’m hoping to avoid antibiotics if poss as have had two lots already since Christmas for bouts of tonsillitis. However can see it heading that way potentially and do wonder if something is lingering on.

@Sadmadsleepy DD also had 3 courses of antibiotics for cough and ear infections. She was also suspected to have glue ear but her audiologist confirmed that her hearing is fine. I waited for 2 weeks for the cough to subside but had to go for antibiotics because she was coughing up green mucus (sorry for TMI). But I would say nib it in the bud and speak to ur GP also try inhalation and saline nasal rinse just before bed, it helped DD immensely.
