Fever 12 d/s. Worried about hypothermia

So, a little bit of background. My 6 y/o son had a nasty infection at Xmas. One particular evening his temperature dropped to to below 35 and it really, really terrified me.
Cut to now... today my 12 y/o has vomited twice, felt dizzy and has had a fever of 38.5-39. I've given alternate doses of calpol and nurofen throughout the day. He's ASD and trying to get him to have medication can be tricky. The last lot of medicine that he agreed to take was at 15:40 and he had 10ml of ibuprofen liquid. Anyway, his temperature at 20:25 was 38.8 so I persuaded him to have just one paracetamol tablet (as per the box instructions for his age). Just rechecked his temperature (an hour later) and its already come down to 37.7.
My anxiety has kicked in big time now. Is this too fast? What if it carries on falling all night? Did I do right in giving him a tablet instead of medicine?

(Anxiety is a bummer. Especially as I've been doing better lately)

Aww it's so horrible when they are poorly. It sounds like he's on the mend and/or the meds have kicked in. An hour is plenty time for them to work on a high temperature.

Try not worry a temperature coming down post Paracetamol is good.

BabyST · 09/05/2023 22:28

@AlwaysFlappable i have messaged you x

PaddingtonTheAngelofDeath · 09/05/2023 22:32

Why @BabyST why PM about something like this, it is weird.

Op it doesn't matter what someone says in a PM it is still as trustworthy/untrustworthy as anyone else that posts.

The paracetamol is doing what it is meant to do, although a slight temp now isn't necessarily a worry if the child is still behaving as normal. Deep breath this is a different illness a different child.

PaddingtonTheAngelofDeath · 09/05/2023 23:07

I have been nice to the op. I've given my opinion and tried to be supportive. My concern is for her as it is weird to PM.

AlwaysFlappable · 10/05/2023 00:44

Thank you so much for all replies. I just needed to let out my concerns. Im hoping he'll have a settled night and then I can see how he is tomorrow. You're right @PaddingtonTheAngelofDeath they are completely different and I know I shouldn't panic.

Thanks again for all replies x
