DS coughed after opening mouth when swimming

DS had swimming lesson tonight and went under for a second or so a few times coughing and and spluttering when he came up.
I'm freaking out about secondary drowning now 😫 If a child coughs when they open their mouth swimming does it always mean that water has been inhaled?
I have health anxiety and am really worried about it.
He seems fine.

Kindly, you’re being a bit silly.

Your child is fine.

Yes, fellow health anxiety sufferer here and have worried about this countless times. DCs are still here, even though they do this multiple times weekly :)

I taught kids to swim in a previous existence and I can assure you that they all open their mouths and cough a bit a some point and none of them ever came to any harm at all xx

Coughing is the body's natural reaction to expell liquid from the lungs. It is doubtful that secondary drowning would be a concern after one cough.

Aww op you sound like me I worry so much over things like this too. But you posted on Monday, it's Friday night now, is he ok?
